Year 6 VE Day Celebrations

Last week, after successfully completing their SATs, Year 6 were able to let off some steam and spent the day travelling back in time to May 1945 to celebrate Victory in Europe Day as part of our study of Britain in the 1940s.

The children and staff dressed up in party clothes and 1940s dress and learnt to lindy hop, make jam and make a tea loaf using war time rations, and they even found time for a paper aeroplane competition, which was won by Sarah.  We took time out to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives during the war, whilst gathered around our flag pole for a one-minute silence.

One of the highlights of our day was a visit from a military vehicle from the era.  Year 6 were so excited to get up close to the vehicle and have their pictures taken next to it!  A huge thank you to Natasha Sheldon and David Batty for organising the surprise!  The day was topped off with a lovely street party in the sunshine, where they all received their Leaver's Hoodies!

Well done Year 6 on a really wonderful and hard working week!
